Bolt holes on the outer rim, along with alignment pegs. Three places to allow fluid? to escape. Interesting texture. Some marking at one of the holes, so I guess a new part was needed, but otherwise I really don't know.
Beats the heck out of me! But it's well photographed.
Colour me clueless.

A ute is short for a utility vehicle, known as a pick-up truck in the US.
