No not red ants. These are Cottonseed Bug nymphs.
Ah ha, thanks for the info. I do not remember knowing anything about them when we grew cotton!
They are the most red ants that I have ever seen. I thought it was a plant at first.

Sorry... didn't mean to alarm you. These are definitely not fire ants but rather little Cottonseed Bug nymphs.
I too thought they might have been red ants and wondered how they have come so far south. They are quite pretty little bugs.
Indeed: very tiny. And red, very red.
