Excitedly adding to my list today of
bird species sighted on our farm.
#52: a Dollarbird calling out to his
mate.
On research this is a migratory bird that travels to Eastern Australian
to breed Sept-Oct each year before returning home to New Guinea in Mar-April.
Not a bird I know, and I would be excited too.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting a new bird at your place. I've not heard of a Dollar Bird. I am still trying to figure out what some of our regular visitors at Kandos are.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the book "The Field Guide to the Birds of Australia" for identifying birds. Great illustrations to make it easier.
DeleteI also came across this worldwide bird database website in my research yesterday that was very helpful in identifying the Dollarbird because it also has recordings of bird calls & you can search regions: https://avibase.bsc-eoc.org/checklist.jsp
Somehow I imagine him to sound like a kookaburra. I would bet he doesn't tweet like a robin!
ReplyDeleteYou are correct... he sounded more like a kookaburra than a robin by far!!
DeleteI've never even heard of this bird.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blue sky.
Always exciting to add another one to the list. You captured a great picture as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. Cheers Diane
