 Australia has a fascination with big things. 

There are over 150 "big things" in Australia ranging from the iconic Big Banana in Coffs Harbour, Big Merino in Goulburn & Big Golden Guitar in our country music capital Tamworth to the lesser known Big Wickets in Westbury, Big Ugg Boots in Thornton & Big Cane Toad in Sarina and the most recent big thing the Big Watermelon in Chinchilla. 

Well… our local town has its own big thing and it was one of the first big things:

 The Big Murray Cod 

Built in 1967, it is 7m (22.9ft) long & 2m(6.5ft) high and sits alongside the Murray River in Tocumwal.

Much of inland Australia is in the midst of a heatwave. We measured a stifling 46°C (114.8°F) in the shade today. The heat does make for some interesting afternoon clouds though… this photo was taken whilst out checking hay last night on a neighbouring dairy farm.

This little kitten got lucky today. Dumped like rubbish by a heartless person it has now found a loving home. 

Pets that become ferals are a big cause of loss of native wildlife in this country. Pet owners need to be responsible for their pets. Get your cats and dogs desexed, know where they are by keeping them confined to your yard and don’t dump your unwanted pets. Our wildlife depends on you being responsible.
