I'm no pro but for me I like to photograph the moon as it is rising or setting the next morning on full moon, as it coincides with sunrise/sunset and the light is fading. It probably helps that we have pretty much an uninterrupted horizon and minimal light pollution. This photo is taken with my zoom lens at focal length 140mm & is straight from the camera. I don't photoshop my photos.
