Jump-ups (small hills) randomly dot the
landscape in outback Queensland.
(Hoover mouse over each photo for location)
Fittingly named.
From the top, the town of Quilpie off in the
distance.
Jump-ups are a feature of the Channel Country & Mitchell Grass
Downs.
Swanvale jump-up was extra large.
A mountain range, part of the Great Dividing Range.
Sometimes we had
company,
most times we had the lookouts all to ourselves
to watch the sunset across the
flat landscape.
The vastness is amazing. Love your sunset.
ReplyDeleteJump-ups is a new term for me. Love the scenery though, and that sunset is a gem.

ReplyDeleteThis is a most beautiful set of photos. The scenery in your part of the world is stunning.
ReplyDeleteLiving on the coast one forgets just how flat and vast Australia is. Thanks for these amazing captures.
ReplyDeletelove the pics.........wished I had one of these at my place..........
ReplyDeleteYou are making me want to head west and do some exploring. Amazing views and gorgeous sunset.
ReplyDeleteWell I just had to go and find out about jump-ups and 20 minutes later here I am back again. Every day is a school day. I came across Starlight Lookout amongst others in my reading too so it was good to see what it looked like from your photo. Now I'm back from investigating Quilpie. At this rate it will be lunchtime (I've just had breakfast) and I'll still be catching up with your posts. I'd better get a move on.
ReplyDeleteThis made me so happy to read Graham. I am thrilled that my blog posts have got someone half way across the world googling these remote little towns in Australia. That makes me smile. You seem to have enjoyed my journey through outback Queensland.
DeleteI thoroughly enjoyed it Lynda. Thank you.
DeleteI always enjoy seeing what you're doing on your farm, but it's been fun to "go along" on your vacation, too. Some of those settings are spectacular!
