There's a lot to this farming lark isn't there. Straight furrows was about the most technical thing I can recall from my childhood. There's no science whatsoever in crofting (the farming of fences).
Our country is very flat so we can flood irrigate a lot of it. Each bay is terraced with only centimetres variation from one bay to the next. The bays here are about 40m wide and are dead flat across each one but slope slightly downwards so the water can drain to the bottom of each bay.
