The things I find on the
farm!!
These tiny prehistoric looking beetles are Mimic Bark Weevils aka Kurrajong Weevils (Axionicus insignis)… well camouflaged on the Kurrajong tree.

While not quite a train of beetles like one species does (yes, I forget which one) they clearly do like to follow the leader.
ReplyDeleteWell I recognised them as weevils but, of course, I'd never heard of Mimic Bark Weevils: a most appropriate name. The most persistent weevil I came across in NZ was a rather charming one (I've forgotten its name) but I stepped on one by accident and it was as malodorous as anything I can think of. Fortunately it was outside on the deck.
ReplyDeleteThey sure blend in well!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture. They do look prehistoric.
ReplyDeleteHiding in plain sight!
ReplyDeleteCrazy little creatures! A good find :D)
ReplyDeleteGoing to have to look them up...to see if they are good or bad...
ReplyDeleteAmazing - but most creatures blend in with their surroundings.
ReplyDeleteWow something I have never seen before. Diane
ReplyDeleteKräääk... they don't looks nice...
