Are they edible like sea mussels?
Yes they are, but I can't say that I have tried them.
Did not know that you got fresh water mussels as well. I am also interested as Andrew is, are they edible? Diane
Apparently you can eat them yes. They are traditional aboriginal tribal food but are relatively tough to eat, not like a salt water mussel.
