It looks as though it may be from the same family as the NZ Fantail: my favourite NZ bird.
This is a Willie Wagtail and yes it is from the Fantail family. It is the largest of the Australian Fantails.

Willie wagtails are such delightful birds. I don't think I ever see them in my mountain garden but do in our garden further west.
