Our winter is pretty mild compared to those in the northern hemisphere. We don't get any snow, days don't drop below zero and only occasionally do the nights.
I came over from Andrew of High Riser. To me it sort of look like to lower or raise water though a dike system. I recall when I was younger that some people flooded there fields. If you have time stop in for some coffee.
You are very close with your observation. This photo is taken in an empty irrigation channel. The farms in this region are all irrigated via a network of channels, the water all flows under gravity so we can flood irrigate our fields.
My first glance made me think aeronautical.... well, once again you make the ordinary quite mysterious. Well done.
