What is #IconicAustralia?
The Elders 2017 Calendar
Competition poses this question.
Is it
our magnificent and diverse natural beauty?
Is
it the
openness & sparseness of the outback?
Red Sky in the Morning.
Is it
our rugged coastline or pristine beaches?
Is it that Australia is a land of
drought and flooding rains?
Waiting for Rain.
Is it our rich blend of culture?
Is
it the imagination and inventiveness of its people?
Stacked up before the storm.
Is it our laid back and "she’ll be right mate"
attitude?
Or is it the unique sound of the kookaburra or the smell of the eucalyptus
leaves?
Many things and places could be classed as Iconic Australia.
The above photos are my entries in the competition.

When you
hear the word Australia what do you think of?
It is all of the things you listed and more.
ReplyDeleteAnd for me, a magpie's warble spells home.
Love your iconic photos and I hope you do well in the competition.
Thank you. The magpies are certainly iconic Australia. I do so love their dawn warble...
DeleteFor me, it's the colours of Australian soil, sea and shores, and the typical smell of the eucalyptus leaves.
ReplyDeleteWonderful images.. Wow!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your entries! I love them all! When I hear Australia these days, I think of my friend, Lynda. Maybe someday I'll get to experience the beauty of your part of the world myself and will be better prepared to answer your questions.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim. You would be welcomed with open arms if you were to come down this way.
DeleteI think I will go with EC. I hear maggies talking to each other in a language I do not know. Lovely photos. You write well and concisely. Might I suggest more economical words with your posts? I've thought of my own now and it certainly won't get a gig on an Elders calendar, but sipping the best coffee to be had in the world at a beach side cafe in Australia; the coffee made from imported beans by an imported coffee machine, and the skill of the brarista makes it perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound rather nice. Melbourne is really renown for its coffee culture, fabulous eateries and great food... overlooking the beach... perfect!! I'm sure you would have a photo of that somewhere in your archives.
DeleteI wouldn't have thought of the magpies because, although the Australasian Magpies used to talk incessantly and loudly outside The Cottage in New Zealand I don't ever recall hearing them in Australia.
ReplyDeleteTo me Australia is the red vastness of the land on the West coast from Margaret River to Sharks Bay and the hinterland. I can't recall anything as iconic from the East Coast but then my experience of that is limited to a few hundred miles from Sydney.
The outback comes to my mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd Kangaroos.
Your photos are always stunning.
I love the sky in your first photo. And the silhouette in your second photo is wonderful too!
ReplyDeleteThese days I think of your pictures! And I thank you for them.
ReplyDeleteYour photography is gorgeous . . . me, when I think of Australia, I think of sailboats, kangaroos and those red mountains that you see in many tourist guides. You live in a beautiful country :)
ReplyDeleteBar men and women, they are equally good behind the bar and in front of it. I've never met one who was nasty or boring.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of pictures.
Just been catching up on your posts and fabulous photos. My first thought when I think of Australia is the 27 hour flight, it is just such a long way! Language is not a problem though sometimes the accent takes a bit of understanding. Generally travel in the country is pretty easy going although the areas are vast. Not everyone is walking around with a gun! Waiting for the rain so typical of Australia and Africa, what a great photo. We have always enjoyed our holidays in Ozz having been to Adelaide, and the East coast from Sydney to Cairns. Must say Brisbane was probably our favourite but it is a great country. Also platypus comes to mind as one of my favourite animals. Hope all is well Diane
ReplyDeleteI think your first 2 photos capture 'iconic' Australia perfectly as do so many of your captures! I look forward to hearing the results.
ReplyDeleteOh It's great post.
ReplyDeleteHeips
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sky.. And I love a lot this man in the photo.
These are all wonderful captures!
ReplyDeleteAnd interesting question. Your images certainly reflect the inland but so many of us live at the edge. So probably the sea is iconic but not or me.
