A piece of Farm-ily has come to the city.
Last month I entered my first ever serious
photographic competition
- the inaugural Sony Alpha Art House photo
competition.
And I am super excited that that the above photo Hanging by a Thread received an honourable mention (i.e. was a top 3 finalist) in the macro category.
You can see all the finalists here.
You can see all the finalists here.
These photos are now part of a
travelling exhibition, having been printed A1 size on acrylic for display as
part of the Sony Alpha Art House exhibition which is “one of the largest
showcases of Sony photography ever presented in Australia”.
“Categories for the Alpha Art House competition
include Abstract, Editorial, Landscape, Macro, Nature, Portrait, Sports and
Street. With a vast array of stunning, colourful and high detailed photos
ranging from an intricate spiders web covered in rain drops (that’s mine!!) to
a cross country cyclist cycling in the New Zealand country side to a family of
four riding a motorbike in a busy street, it was hard to pick a winner out of
the three finalists in each category”.

The opening exhibition was at
Customs House,
Circular Quay in Sydney from 9th - 15th March.
It then travels to Brisbane & Melbourne:
17th - 23rd March at King George’s Square in Brisbane
4th - 10th April at Federation Square in Melbourne
As we just happened to be in Sydney last week for a
very important function we also took the opportunity to visit Customs House
to see the exhibition on opening day before the finalists had been publically announced.
What a time to be in Sydney!
What a time to be in Sydney!
I have never considered myself to be a photographer, rather
a farmer who happens to take a lot of photos of what we do. And I have ummed and ahhed all week about even
sharing this moment on my blog as I am not really one to boast and am much more
comfortable behind the scenes.
But, given that so many of you also share a love
of photography I thought by me sharing here it may encourage you all to get out
there and enter some of your photos in photographic competitions.
You just
never know where they might end up.

ReplyDeleteHi Lynda. First of all, let me say congratulations on your photographic honorable mention. It is a great photo. I saw that you started following my blog, 111lalalane. Welcome, I am so happy to have you! I started taking a look at your blog and I must say, you do take gorgeous photos. I will become your new follower, as soon as I finish with this comment. I read that you were from Riverina. I did a little research and found that you were only a few miles from Wagga Wagga. My husband and I stayed in Wagga in Dec of 1980 - Jan of 1981. He was sent there to train new employees of Riverina Wool. He works at USA Wool in the states. The company has gone through a couple of name changes and I'm not sure what it was called back then; either Santee River Wool or Chargeurs Wool. What a small world? I look forward to getting to know you through our blogs. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! This is news that is too good to keep to yourself. That is an absolutely gorgeous photo,no wonder it won a prize.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You are so deserving.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! (It's not bragging. Your friends want to know what's happening in your life!) Of course, I love the photo, too. It's gorgeous.
