Drovers making use of the Travelling Stock Route.

  1. Love this image Lynda - I lived right on a TSR in the Hunter Valley and won the lease for the lock-up across the road. Ah memories. We were in Angus, but I have such a soft spot for Herefords!

  3. I've never heard of a Traveling Stock Route, so again, you introduce me to something new. But I definitely recognize the cattle being all over the place and not in a nice, straight line going down the road! Of course, that NEVER happens!

    1. Also known as the Long Paddock, the TSR’s are network of roadside reserves that historically linked the stock-breeding areas of inland NSW and Queensland with markets in Victoria. They are an iconic part of rural life in Australia The reserves are now mostly used for supplementary grazing in times of drought, bushfire and flood, but also for public recreation, apiary sites and have a high level of conservation value. Drovers using the network must apply for permits and stock must be travelling i.e. do a certain amount of kilometres per week.
